Cirque du Soleil – Kooza – At PortAventura
If you’re in Salou or visiting Barcelona between the 11th July and 30th August this year don’t miss the spectacular Cirque du Soleil show, Kooza, at PortAventura. As thrilling as a roller coaster ride and as entertaining as any star studded cabaret, the secret of Cirque du Soleil’s phenomenal worldwide success is that this Canadian troupe brings traditional circus acts into the 21st century by using high tech special effects, colourful sets and costumes and contemporary dance and music.
The banning of animal acts in circus shows meant that human acrobats and performers had to work harder to achieve that “wow factor” and Cirque du Soleil athletes train every day for 6 hours to maintain the fitness levels necessary for their demanding and often dangerous routines which keep the audience on the edge of their seats. In Kooza, comic book/tarot card style characters tell the story of a naive young man, The Innocent, who is trying to find his niche in a mad world. He is drawn into bizarre and hazardous scenarios by The Trickster – mischievous and cunning with superhuman powers, The Pickpocket, who is constantly pursued by two incompetent cops, the ever confused King of Fools and his pair of foolish footmen, The Obnoxious Tourist and The Bad Dog. This heady mix of comedy, dazzling colour, music, breathtaking feats of strength and skill – including the Wheel of Death, with acrobats performing both inside and outside the wheel as it moves up and down at 40 kmph – are what keeps Cirque du Soleil on top of the game.
